200 Paddlers and 25+ Environmental Organizations Raising Bucks for the Planet

Join us on Sunday June 15, 2009, Foster City.  Only $25 to register. Limited #s of rental boats available for $20/single or $25/double.  Paddlers raise pledges for their favorite registered Environmental Nonprofit Group.

The People Paddle Series was created in 2006 by a bunch of kayaking fanatics and experienced volunteer event managers to be a sustainable, portable kayak-borne fundraiser, flexible enough to raise money for any cause, appealing enough to be adopted by any kayak outfitter as a proven fundraiser.

Our first People Paddle on September 17, 2007 was hosted at San Francisco's historic South Beach Harbor & Pier 40. This innagural event featured 16 participant nonprofit organizations, recruiting 73 kayakers to paddle on the one of the most gorgeous days in Northern California history.

April 15, 2007 ushered in our second year, our next People Paddle is launched as "People Paddle for AIDS".  Hosted by our partner Healing Waters, with gear provided by City Kayak, featured 117 kayakers, partnering with at least 20 AIDS Service Organizations, all of whom will be recruiting paddlers to raise money for their cause.

Now in our dozenth-ish kayak fundraiser for a number of causes, our biggest People Paddle yet is launched in Foster City thru Aquanfest as "People Paddle for the Planet".  Again hosted by partner Catalyst for Youth of San Jose, with gear provided by Aquan Sports and several other outfitters, partnering with up to 30 Eco-Nonprofit Groups along with many spectators.   Join up to 200 kayakers and outrigger canoeists in the Bay Area's biggest and by far most colorful paddlecraft fundraiser ever!
  • What does it cost nonprofits to get involved?  NOTHING.    We do ALL the work so you don't have to do a thing except spread the word.
  • What do nonprofits have to do to be a beneficiary?  Just ask us and we'll add you to the beneficiary list.  Then simply spread the word and get people interested in kayaking.  Click the FAQ under People Paddle for the Planet for a lowdown.
  • How much could nonprofits make?  That's up to your kayakers.  Some nonprofits raise zero.  Others have raised a quick $10k thru the years.  It all depends on what your kayakers do.
  • What else do nonprofits get?  FREE booth space for BOTH days of Aquanfest, June 13 and June 14 as well.
  • What if a nonprofit doesn't want to host a (free) booth.  No worries, we'll list you as a beneficiary anyway.
  • What about liability?  Aquan Sports of San Mateo runs the entire Aquanfest event and they cover all the insurance.
  • Do particiapnts have to be experienced kayakers?  NO WAY!  In fact, about 80% of our kayak fundraisers have NEVER been in a kayak.  We train them to kayak on Sunday morning.
  • What's Aquanfest?  The Bay Area's only multi-outfitter paddlefest for 2009.  We expect to draw about 2000 people for the 2 day human-powered water-festival on Saturday June 13, 2009 and Sunday June 14, 2009.
  • How many people will attend Aquanfest?  We expect EASILY 2000 people, probably lots more because we're marketing heavilly.
  • What's the catch?  There is none.  We love kayaking.  I and my partner Lisa own 27 kayaks.  It's an obsession.  And we love the environment.  So we'll do everything we can do to raise money for our favorite eco-nonprofits.
  • Do you have fliers we can modify and send around?  Yup, here's one you can modify as you want.
Really?  You don't have to know how to kayak to join the fundraiser?  Yup, it's true, we train you well before you hit the water.  You'll be in excellent company: most participants have never been in a kayak.  REALLY!

Kayakers launch from the Foster City Lagoon and paddle the perimeter.  It takes most kayakers about 15 minutes per loop.  Kayakers paddle as many loops as they want.

AND all paddlers receive a FREE "SuperPass" to demo any watercraft in the entire show for both days!!!

The best part is the paddler gets to select the Eco Nonprofit for whom they will raise pledges.  Our nonprofit partner Catalyst for Youth applies 15% of all pledges and registration fees to cover insurance/permits/other expenses.  85% of pledges goes directly to the Eco-Nonprofit selected by the paddler.  Everybody wins!

So please join us for People Paddle for the Planet.  Whether by paddling with us on June 14, or sponsoring your favorite kayaker, or if you're a nonprofit group by hosting a (free) booth, or just coming out and cheering us on as we help the environment
