PeoplePaddle
is open
to
individuals with a
wide range of abilities. If you have special needs or questions,
please contact us in advance. Participants must meet essential
eligibility requirements specific to all activities. In
registering for an activity, the participant acknowledges all of the
requirements are met for that activity.
Note a "PFD" is a "Personal Floatation Device," sometimes referred to
as a life vest. All PFDs must be approved by the United States
Coast
Guard for event conditions.
GENERAL
REQUIREMENTS
FOR
ALL PEOPLEPADDLE PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers in the water, and all participants must wear U.S. Coast
Guard PFDs, and all appropriate safety gear. Participants may
paddle as long as they would like between 10am and 1am. Each
circuit is about a mile around the Foster City Lagoon. Conditions
and
capabilities of the paddler determine length of trip. Safety
assistance may or
may not be available, so appropriate self-rescue skills will be
required.
All activities are open to all individuals who meet the following
essential eligibility requirements. All participants must:
- Be
18 years of age or older, or
accompanied by an adult or legal guardian.
- Be
able to manage all personal
care and mobility independently or with the assistance of a companion
who
accompanies the participant.
- Be
able to perform all water activities independently or with the
assistance of a companion who accompanies the participant.
- Be
able to breathe independently
without any medical assistive devices.
- Be
able to reach the event area
alone or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies the
participant.
- Be
able to get into and out of a
kayak independently or with the assistance of a companion who
accompanies
the participant.
- Be
able to follow all instructions of
all event coordinators.
- Be
comfortable in the water including: floating on back independently with
a properly fitted PFD, turning from face down to face up independently
while wearing a properly fitted PFD, and holding breath while under
water.
- Be
able to maintain a balanced,
upright position when seated in a kayak, with adaptations if
needed.
NOTE No adaptations providing head or neck support will be allowed.
