Essential Eligibility Criteria

***Note: All participants and volunteers MUST meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria in order to participate in events. Please read these Essential Eligibility Criteria carefully and verify that you meet all requirements.  If you are in doubt about your eligibility, please contact us immediately at:  peoplepaddle@regathon.com

PeoplePaddle is open to individuals with a wide range of abilities.  If you have special needs or questions, please contact us in advance.  Participants must meet essential eligibility requirements specific to all activities.  In registering for an activity, the participant acknowledges all of the requirements are met for that activity.

Note a "PFD" is a "Personal Floatation Device," sometimes referred to as a life vest.  All PFDs must be approved by the United States Coast Guard for event conditions.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PEOPLEPADDLE PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS

All volunteers in the water, and all participants must wear U.S. Coast Guard PFDs, and all appropriate safety gear.  Participants paddle as many as 17.5 miles, or as little as 3.5 miles.  Conditions and capabilities of the paddler determine length of trip.  Safety assistance may or may not be available, so appropriate self-rescue skills will be required.

All activities are open to all individuals who meet the following essential eligibility requirements.  All participants must:

  •  Be 18 years of age or older, or accompanied by an adult or legal guardian.
  •  Be able to manage all personal care and mobility independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies the participant.
  •  Be able to perform all water activities independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies the participant.
  •  Be able to breathe independently without any medical assistive devices.
  •  Be able to reach the event area alone or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies the participant.
  •  Be able to get into and out of a kayak independently or with the assistance of a companion who accompanies the participant.
  •  Be able to follow all instructions of all event coordinators.
  •  Be comfortable in the water including: floating on back independently with a properly fitted PFD, turning from face down to face up independently while wearing a properly fitted PFD, and holding breath while under water.
  •  Be able to maintain a balanced, upright position when seated in a kayak, with adaptations if needed.  NOTE No adaptations providing head or neck support will be allowed.
